I am currently an Associate Professor at the University of Southern Mississippi. I earned my doctorate degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Minnesota and earned my bachelor's degree in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Missouri. I am foremost a counseling psychologist, but also describe myself as a vocational psychologist, as my research is focused on career development, assessment, and outcomes. In particular I am interested in the influence of vocational interests and work values in career choice and development. My theoretical orientation is primarily cognitive-behavioral and behavioral, but I appreciate aspects of other theories, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Interpersonal.
Overall I am interested in career choice and development in both adult and college student populations. My research is focused on the importance of work values in the selection, satisfaction, and health of workers. Of particular importance is the impact on workers' mental and physical health related to a good or poor fit to their work environment. I am also interested in the influence of vocational interests on career development, or what activities one likes or dislikes in regards to work. Additional research interests include: measure development, construct validation, and career counseling assessment and intervention. Current projects I am working on include a collaboration with Dr. Emily Yowell, a project exploring the efficacy of a career counseling group intervention, research on college retention, and predictors of job satisfaction.
If you are interested in working with me, feel free to send me an email (email@example.com)!
